Fall Photoshoot Outfit Ideas | Photographer Styling Tips

With Fall just around the corner you may be thinking of booking an outdoor maternity or family session and for good reason. Fall is a popular time for photography when the leaves turn colors and the cooler weather is perfect for layers, cozy knits, long sleeves and brighter color palettes.

Let’s talk color! Autumn means the leaves are turning vibrant shades of reds, oranges, yellows and browns. To match the hues of the Fall foliage, we suggest colors like cream, taupe, rust/copper, olive green, grey, black and beige/tan for neutral tones. If you’re looking for bolder colors, we suggest jewel tones like forest green, burgundy, dark purple, navy or honey yellow. Does everyone need to wear the same color? While we love monochrome styling, mixing your color combinations while keeping the same theme is a great way to style your session.

Looking for some extra oomph? Think texture and accessories. Adding a scarf or a hat could be fun, or if you are wearing the same colors, textured knits can add some depth while still keeping your photos neutral. While normally we say to avoid patterns, plaid is always a great pattern for the Fall that isn’t distracting and coordinates well with the season. Dressing to match the season and weather will ensure your photos coordinate with the surrounding environment. Need help with wardrobe for your session? Our client closet is included in all our sessions and available for you to borrow from. Don’t see what you’re looking for, no worries! We can make suggestions using your own wardrobe or help source what you’re looking for.
