What to Wear for Fall Photos | Vancouver Family Photographer

My favourite local shop, Crush Clothing here in South Surrey, is my go-to recommendation for outdoor photography styling. Whether your session is in the grass at Campbell Valley Park or on the sand at White Rock or Crescent Beach, the great thing is you won’t be stuck with an outfit you’ll wear once for the photo session, as their pieces are timeless and versatile. Your photo session is the perfect time to treat yourself and invest in a few new staple pieces that could double as your photo session outfit!

On my Instagram @kimforresterphotography, I’ve shared a post including 3 tips: select light earthy tones, start with mom’s outfit when deciding what to wear (then pick colours from hers to coordinate the other family members), dress based on what you’ll be doing with the photos (ex. add a festive colour for holiday cards), and pick clothes that are YOU so you can get lots more use out of them!

Crush has so many great finds from boho feminine, to casual, to dressy, so there’s something for everyone there. Here are some examples for three different looks. They have many other perfect options at their store and online, so these are just ideas.

1) Boho Feminine styles, such as flowy dresses, give movement and a soft, playful energy to your photos. Can’t you just picture yourself wearing this while you twirl with your kids in the long grass during golden hour? For fall, there’s no need to wear dark colours. You can still go with a lighter colour like a cream and taupe to help bounce the light for brighter, airy photos. Choose a dress with some fall coloured florals like soft oranges, yellows, or even greens, and ideally in a longer length and/or sleeves. Throw a cardigan or jacket overtop for a cozier seasonally appropriate look.

Boho Dress Style

2) Casual Elegant styling is a great way to elevate your look for these special photos, while staying comfy and layering with pieces that can be taken off with some variety. This pleated black midi skirt is a multi-season staple, and we can see why. You can pair it with a graphic tee for a dressed down look, or a lace trim cami like this one to dress it up a bit.

Casual Elegant Style

3) Comfy cozy styling is perfect for those brisk fall days when you’d rather not be shivering your way through your photo session! This coatigan is one of Crush Clothing’s best sellers, and for good reason. It’s like wearing a BLANKET, and it gives such an elegant look with movement and a nice shape to any casual outfit.
