Pandemic Pregnancy: Nicola’s Story | Vancouver Maternity Photo Shoot

Covid has brought a lot of challenges and struggles for so many, but has it brought anything good? As part of our “Pregnancy Through a Pandemic” maternity photo shoot, second time mom Nicola shares her story of gratitude. Uplifting and positive, Nicola’s story is one that helps shine a light on the simple things in life to be thankful for.

NICOLA’S STORY

Silver Lining:

Navigating my second pregnancy in a social cocoon was, for me, the therapy I never knew I needed. Physically, the pregnancy proved more of a challenge than my first, but emotionally/ mentally the break from social expectations gave me space to focus on the relationships closest to me, and to prioritize my life and family goals.

Its as if the pre-Covid hum drum of “regular” life was a long term white noise that’s been suddenly replaced by true tranquil quiet, a quiet that offers healing time to self-reflect and bond with family. To be honest, it wasn’t until that “white noise” was shut off (in true quarantine fashion) that the overstimulation and anxiety it came with was even noticed.

Looking back at this unique Covid time capsule, I know I am forever going to benefit from its protective green house growth. Isn’t it interesting that we say “time spent,” as if time was a currency? But its true! And if anything, the Covid era has both proven and afforded it. They say you can never buy back time, but you know what, this is probably as close as it will ever get, and I am so grateful.

I don’t pretend to be naïve to the chaos, sadness and downright darkness the pandemic has brought but if there is a personal silver lining, I think I’ve found it.

And as the bigger world begins opening up again alongside my own little world, I will emerge (hopefully), a socially well rested, more balanced, mama of two.
