Moonlight Maternity Session | White Rock Beach, BC
Forget those golden hour and sunset maternity photos - what if you could have the MOON creating a gorgeous backdrop to commemorate this special milestone?
I am finally getting the chance to share these maternity photos by our very own Dani at White Rock Beach, photographed right around the time that she was taking over as our primary photographer here at Kim Forrester Photography when I started maternity leave.
I’m actually glad I’m sharing these now, because we’re already booking outdoor sessions for April, May and June, and we want to give you all some ideas for the types of sessions we can do outdoors. Dani and I are both South/White Rock locals and familiar with some stunning locations here, as well as so many others throughout the Lower Mainland (we have some amazing go-to locations in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, and Port Moody).
When picking an outdoor location, there are so many factors to consider: sunset time, tide time, colours in the scenery, where to park and how to navigate to the best spots, what the terrain is like, how busy it gets, best time of year and day to go, and more. When your photographer also has a client closet to choose from, can help coordinate your outfit to the setting you’ll be working with, and will book you a hair & makeup artist who will help complement the whole look, you are guaranteed the most beautiful photos that will make stunning sentimental art for your home. We created a family photo wall which I’ll share at the end of this photo gallery.
Why did we choose White Rock Beach? It’s one of our favourite places, where we love to go for evening picnics and spend our summer days dipping our toes in the tide pools, with lots of space to be our goofy selves. This was also the spot where I honoured my pregnancy loss with a few photos taken by my team in the summer of 2021, so I thought it would be incredibly special to return to it and honour our rainbow baby. The photos were taken at the same time of year, giving very similar hues in the sky and placement of the moon during sunset. It felt so healing to have my bare feet in the sand, with both the sun and moon softly illuminating the glassy water around us, not just for the pregnancy loss photos, but for this celebration of pregnancy after loss as well. With my little family there with me to savour these moments with and share in our excitement for the future and this little one who would be joining us very soon.
