While newborn photos are always popular for those tiny, curled up, sleepy newborn photos. Milestone baby photography doesn’t nearly get as much attention as it deserves. The truth is that babies change so much over the 1st year that there are so many different moments and milestones to capture. Whether it’s 100 days old photography, 1-month, 3-months, 6-months or 1 year old baby milestone photography or beyond - we’ve got you covered! Here are some answers to your most frequent questions about what age ranges are the best to capture your baby.

What is the newborn photography range?

Answer, within 2-weeks post birth. That said we have many babies that arrive much earlier, in these situations, the 2-week newborn range extends to closer to your baby’s due date. Depending on each baby, we may still be able to capture some of these cute poses within the 1st month after birth.

Why do people want true newborn photos?

True newborn photos mean that your baby is the tiniest they’ll ever be, and along with that they have the ability to be posed in those coveted, cute, curled up poses. If you want to capture those newborn features such as tiny hands, feet, or baby facial features up-close, this is the perfect time to do so when they are asleep for most of the day.

What about photos after the 2-week newborn range?

Baby photos after the 1st month means you will have a baby that is able to stay awake longer. What this means is that you’ll have the opportunity to capture all of that fun, emerging personality. Wide-eyed expressions, smiles and giggles, grumpy faces and connection with the camera offer a different perspective of infancy. For baby photos like this we recommend the age range of 1-6 months. Movement also starts during this range, you may just get a baby push-up or cobra pose as we like to call it.

Baby photos for 6-months and beyond

We have a sitter! Babies at this age range are curious, playful, and love to smile which means we can capture a wider variety of photos. At 6-months to 1-year and beyond, your baby may start sitting which opens up a whole new world for them to explore and allows us to capture some active solo baby photos of your little one on their backs, tummies, or of course sitting up. If you’ve had a newborn session, a sitter session is also a great way to show the tremendous amount of growth that has happened over the last 6+ months by letting that personality shine. For babies 1-year or older, you may even capture some crawling or first step photos which are so treasured by all our families.
