Vancouver Maternity & Newborn Photographer | Bump to Baby

This mom-to-be booked her maternity and newborn sessions together, which was great because I could offer styling advice and location suggestions well in advance to ensure the photos would complement each other on the family photo wall, while giving a nice variety at the same time.

Styling this session was so much fun for me, since the family was super open to my suggestions! We chose the grassy meadows of Campbell Valley Regional Park for a golden hour maternity session, with mom wearing a green long-sleeved maternity dress from my client closet, which complemented the fall tones and hints of green in the background.

For the newborn photos, we opted for a bright and airy soft pink and white look, which was so perfect for their baby girl and led to prints that tied in perfectly with their home decor. I provided hair & makeup courtesy of Faye Smith Agency, and the white lace kimono, light pink dress, and baby’s wraps, backdrops, headband and wooden bucket prop, so all the family had to do was wait for us to arrive.

What did I love most? How much FUN we had! Working with a toddler is always a whirlwind, but you just go with it, embrace their wild side and sense of play for lots of movement, laughter and real moments. The idea at this age is to capture THEM, how they truly are, not staged, while picking the perfect background, lighting, and silly noises and facial expressions to get those natural smiles.
